Laser hair removal uses concentrated light to target the pigment inside each hair follicle, heating it enough to disable future growth without touching the surrounding skin. Because hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles that are actively growing at the time of treatment, a full course of sessions is what gets every follicle in its vulnerable phase. It works well on the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, and back, and it suits men and women equally, whether the goal is smooth legs for summer or a beard line sharp enough to skip the daily razor.
If you have spent years on a rotation of shaving, waxing, or plucking, this is the treatment that ends the rotation. Laser hair removal works best, and is safest, on skin and hair combinations where the laser can clearly tell the difference between the two. Darker hair against lighter skin responds fastest and most predictably. Modern lasers have improved options for a wider range of skin tones, but very light, gray, or blonde hair remains genuinely difficult for any laser to treat effectively, since there is little pigment for the light to grab onto. We would rather tell you that upfront at your consultation than sell you a package that will not deliver.
Most people with hair darker than their skin tone see the best, fastest results, and advances in laser technology have made treatment effective and safe for a much wider range of skin tones than a decade ago. Very light or gray hair is the exception, since there is little pigment for the laser to target. We will assess your hair and skin at a consultation before recommending a course of treatment.
Most clients notice thinner, slower regrowth after the first two or three sessions, with the fuller effect showing once the recommended course, usually six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, is complete. Hair grows in cycles, which is exactly why a series is necessary rather than a single visit.
Most people experience long-term, often permanent, reduction in the treated area once the full course is finished. Hormonal changes over the years can occasionally trigger some regrowth, and an occasional maintenance session handles it easily when that happens.
Virtually none. Some clients notice temporary redness or slight swelling around each follicle for a few hours, similar to a mild razor rash, and it settles quickly. Most people go straight back to their day.
Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and waxing or plucking for at least six weeks before and after each session, since the laser needs the hair root intact and the skin free of a fresh tan to work safely. Shaving beforehand is fine, and is actually what we recommend. Daily sunscreen on the treated area afterward protects your results.
A cooling tip protects your skin as the laser passes over the treatment area, and most clients describe the sensation as a quick, warm snap, similar to a rubber band. Session length depends on the size of the area, from a few minutes for a lip or underarms to closer to an hour for a full back or legs.
